What to See in and Around Central Park

The design for the enchanting 843-acre (3,411,500-square-meter) park, which stretches from 59th to 110th Streets in Manhattan, was selected in 1858. Some of the park’s many landmarks include Belvedere Castle, Bethesda Fountain, Bow Bridge, Tavern on the Green restaurant and Strawberry Fields (a tribute to John Lennon).

The Brooklyn Historical Society is one of the borough’s oldest cultural institutions, and the recent opening of a second branch has made it easier than ever for visitors to immerse themselves in the history of New York City’s most populous borough. The museum’s Brooklyn Heights location houses unique historical artifacts, portraits and landscape paintings that represent Brooklyn through the ages. The newer Dumbo branch highlights the area’s transformation from a 19th-century shipyard to its present incarnation as a hub for culture, food and technology.
