Yellowstone and Great Smoky Mountains rank as the two most visited national parks in the U.S. But if you don´t want to do as everyone else you head far North in Alaska, well above the Arctic Circle.
There sits the least-visited park: Gates of the Arctic. There are neither roads nor trails, but the scenery is breathtaking. You can either take it all in by a small bush plane, in canoes on the many rivers or on foot if you are an adventurous backpacker.
Along the way you will encounter a lot of wildlife like caribou and moose and with a little luck you´ll see grizzlies, wolves and wolverines as well.
