WINTER FUN, ALASKA STYLE
Winter heats up with Alaska traditions and a final dose of snow fun before spring. Join the locals for two of the biggest events of the year: Anchorage Fur Rendezvous and the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
Fur Rendezvous is one of the area’s most beloved events. An Anchorage tradition for 80 years, «Rondy» fills two weekends with snow sculptures, outhouse races, softball on snowshoes, the Mr. Fur Face Beard contest and a dash through the streets of Anchorage with live reindeer.
As Rondy reaches top speed, another event races up. The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race starts in downtown Anchorage each year. The world’s premier sled dog race, it’s billed as the «Last Great Race.» The 100-mile course stretches across rugged Alaska landscape, but the awe-inspiring race begins in the heart of the city on the first Saturday in March.
